LATEST RACE(S): Paragon Speedway (Sept. 1-2)
CURRENT POINTS LEADER: Finishes of eighth and fourth over the weekend cut Cannon McIntosh’s points lead down to single digits following Jade Avedisian’s victory Saturday night. With six races remaining, McIntosh will take a seven-point lead into Illinois for a three-race weekend before heading back to his home state of Oklahoma in October to try and clinch he and Dave Mac-Dalby Motorsports’ first national Midget series championship.
CLOSE GAPS
Jade Avedisian (-7): Avedisian’s fifth Feature win of the season Saturday night chopped what was a 31-point gap to McIntosh down to only seven points heading into the final two race weekends of the season. The next event scheduled is Jacksonville Speedway – the site of her first career national Midget victory one year ago. The final race weekend in October features back-to-back races at I-44 Riverside Speedway, where she won again later that year.
Gavin Miller (-72): A runner-up on Friday and a seventh place on Saturday kept Miller within striking distance of the points lead, where he’s been nearly all season, heading into the final weekends of the year. As part of the championship weekend in Oklahoma, Miller will take on Port City Raceway, where he led several laps in the Feature last year.
Zach Daum (-75): Daum and the Trifecta Motorsports team took another leap forward on their climb back from the depths of the points standings earlier this season with his fifth Feature win of the year Friday at Paragon. The defending Series champion gained 30 points on leader McIntosh over the weekend, chopping the gap down from 105 to 75, and now prepares for three races in his home state of Illinois next weekend.
Chase McDermand (-118): Consistency was the story of the weekend for McDermand as he drove the Mounce/Stout Motorsports #40 to finishes of fourth and fifth. The young racer from Springfield, IL, got the bounce-back weekend he was looking for after suffering a costly DNF in Davenport the week prior, cutting his deficit from 140 points back to 118.
