ORIGINAL OUTLAWS: Amati Racing Seeking Xtreme Sprint Title with Shane Cockrum

In returning to traditional form, it’s only fitting we bring back some traditional names.

The trio of driver Shane Cockrum, crew chief Davey Jones, and car owner Shane Wade will bring the Amati Racing #66 on tour to contend for the inaugural championship with the Xtreme Outlaw Sprint Car Series pres. by Low-E Insulation.

It’s a unit with deep roots planted proudly in traditional sprint car racing. You can trace the Amati name all the way back to the first World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series race on March 18, 1978 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway, and now you can witness the name in action on DIRTVision in 2022.

Shane Wade’s grandfather, Chuck Amati, made that landmark Texas trip and forever etched his name in the record books as if the “One Arm Bandit” isn’t accomplished enough. Amati was a 2004 inductee to the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame before his passing in 2008, but his name remains synonymous with sprint car racing and now prepares for a title fight led by his grandson.

“I’m a strong believer in the World of Outlaws product,” stated the car owner. “I really like the people associated with this deal and look forward to bringing my family’s racing history full circle, having lots of fun, and winning races.”

Shane Cockrum of Benton, IL has the honor of wheeling these Dynotech/DRC machines across the 14-race schedule, which begins at Volusia (FL) Speedway Park’s DIRTcar Nationals on Monday & Tuesday, February 14-15, and carries through the Midwest before culminating with a historic season-finale which is to be announced.

FULL XTREME OUTLAW SCHEDULE

Like the firefighter he is, Cockrum is ready to answer the bell in 2022 as Amati Racing aims to author a new chapter as champions to add to their already Hall of Fame legacy.

“I feel like these tracks will really suit my style,” said the four-time USAC Silver Crown winner. “I love the big fast places but I’ve been successful on small bullrings too, so we’re prepared no matter the size. The new Xtreme Outlaw Series is a great stage to show off the caliber of this team.”

As if Chuck Amati’s grandson and Cliff Cockrum’s boy isn’t enough generational talent, the team will be filled out by the wrench-spinning Davey Jones, son of the legendary Bubby Jones.
