It took only a matter of minutes following Saturday’s groundbreaking news for the first driver to officially announce their intentions to follow the Xtreme Outlaw Series, sanctioned by World Racing Group and broadcasted live on DIRTVision.
The driver who forever owns that distinction is Landon Simon, a 32-year-old native of Tipp City, OH.
With support from East Mountain Transport, he’ll campaign the entire Xtreme Outlaw Sprint Car Series aboard the Landon Simon Racing, True North Cannabis, Lucas Oil Products, DRC #24.
Simon’s quest to become the first-ever Xtreme Outlaw Sprint Car champion will officially begin on Monday & Tuesday, February 14-15, 2022, when the new Series is lifted off the ground at the 51st DIRTcar Nationals held at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, FL. Fans can BUY TICKETS HERE.
“Competing under the Outlaw banner is a dream come true for any racer,” Simon said. “There’s no doubt that World Racing Group leads the dirt track industry, and this new adventure will only add to that. Their involvement with traditional Sprint Cars and Midgets is incredibly exciting for my team, my partners, and the entire non-wing community.”
Along with a full slate in the Xtreme Outlaw Sprint Car Series, Simon plans to compete in select Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series events as well. One of the marquee events for the Midgets will be on August 5-6 when they join the already prestigious Ironman 55 in Pevely, MO alongside the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.
A third-generation racer following in the footsteps of his grandfather Jim Simon and father Chris Simon, Landon was destined to wheel Sprint Cars from the moment he left the hospital in a Jack Hewitt shirt after birth. He climbed behind the wheel for the first time in 2008 and has been enamored in the sport ever since. Highlighted on his resume is a USAC Sprint Car special event win in 2016, multiple Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series (BOSS) victories, and a 2018 POWRi WAR Wildcard championship.
More details on the Xtreme Outlaw Series will be released in the coming weeks as schedules, formats, rules, purses, and more are announced.
