WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Tripleheader Showcases Sprint Cars and Midgets This Weekend

For the first time in their brief history, the Xtreme Outlaw Sprint Car Series presented by Low-E Insulation and the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota will compete on the same weekend.

Sprint Cars take the stage first with the St. Louis Firecracker Faceoff at Pevely, MO’s Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 lighting up the sky on Friday and Saturday, June 24-25. Midgets will conclude the tripleheader with the JB Hawks Summer Spectacular consuming Jacksonville Speedway in Illinois on Sunday, June 26.

To make the three-night affair even better, the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Models and DIRTcar Summer Nationals will be along for the ride each night on DIRTVision. On Friday and Saturday at I-55, the Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals will also be in action.

Here’s what to watch for this weekend on DIRTVision.com:

NEW TRACKS: A pair of fresh venues will welcome the Xtreme Outlaw Series for the first time this weekend as I-55 (MO) and Jacksonville (IL) join Volusia (FL), Lake Ozark (MO), and Millbridge (NC) as hosts in the inaugural season. Albeit new to Xtreme, neither facility is a stranger to the specific type of racing returning this weekend.

I-55 hosted a pair of USAC National Sprint Car events in 2018 & 2020 won by Jason McDougal & Justin Grant, while Jacksonville has been a longtime host of 50+ POWRi National Midget League races for almost 20 years now. The Illinois 1/4-mile has produced six winners in the last six shows with Brent Crews, Daison Pursley, Thomas Meseraull, Buddy Kofoid, Tanner Carrick, and Logan Seavey finding victory lane.

THE SPLIT: The landscape of the top-five championship contenders with the Xtreme Outlaw Sprint Car Series could look quite different by the end of the weekend. With a USAC Sprint Car doubleheader in Wisconsin taking place on Saturday & Sunday, several of the top competitors will be forced to make the choice of heading north or staying near St. Louis.

CJ Leary is in commanding control (+71) of the $20,000-to-win Xtreme Outlaw title with two wins and four top-five finishes through the first four races. The Bill Michael Motorsports #77 is also currently ranked fifth in the USAC standings (-77). Robert Ballou (-71) is the man trailing Leary in the Xtreme Outlaw points, but also remains a tad closer in the USAC title race (-55). “The Mad Man” is expected at I-55 at least on Friday, potentially Saturday dependant on weather, to chase his first win with the new Series.

Brady Bacon, who won the Series’ last race at Lake Ozark two weeks ago, is currently fourth (-124) in Xtreme Outlaw points but remains much closer (-14) to a fifth USAC championship. An absence from any of those three drivers will drastically impact the current standings with the likes of Shane Cockrum (-80), Alex Bright (-144), Matt Westfall (-154), Mario Clouser (-165), Jake Swanson (-181), and Wesley Smith (-191) waiting to climb up the ladder.

BUNDY BUILT: When it comes to the Xtreme Outlaw Midgets, Bundy Built Motorsports left the Series debut at Millbridge (NC) in May as the hottest team on tour. The tandem of Zach Daum (Pocahontas, IL) and Ethan Mitchell (Mooresville, NC) were two of only three drivers to earn a top-10 finish in both races.

To make it sweeter, Daum was the only driver to finish on the podium both nights and escaped with control of the early championship lead in the 10-race Series. His younger prodigy, Mitchell (-24), is close behind at fourth in the standings with eight races left.

GIRL POWER: The foursome of Taylor Reimer, Kaylee Bryson, Jade Avedisian & Mariah Ede are the latest girls to make Midget racing by storm, and the Xtreme Outlaw Series offers them another platform to do it on with DIRTVision.

Reimer, Bryson & Avedisian have all finished on the podium in an Xtreme/POWRi/USAC race, and the competition to become the first-ever female winner of a National Midget race is only getting more and more intense. Reimer (Bixby, OK) matched the record with a second-place result at Millbridge and earned a QuickTime Award, further solidifying her status as an up-and-coming star alongside Bryson, a Chili Bowl A-Main starter, and Bryson, a highly-touted micro sprint racer.

SPEEDWEEK: Sunday’s show at Jacksonville, held in conjunction with the POWRi National Midget League, marks the conclusion of a grueling Illinoi SPEED Week. The five-race mini-Series takes racers all across the “Land of Lincoln” with stops at Charleston, Fayette County, Lincoln, Macon, and ultimately Jacksonville.

JOINING THE FUN: Through the first handful of shows, the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars, DIRTcar Late Models, and 600cc Micro Sprints have accompanied the Xtreme Outlaw Sprint Cars and Midgets on race night. This weekend, the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Model Series and DIRTcar Summer Nationals join the fun for the first time.

ALL-ACCESS: A unique aspect of Sunday’s Xtreme Outlaw / POWRi Midget show at Jacksonville is the all-access ticket. Rather than dividing general admission and pit passes, promoter Kenny Dobson is thinking outside the box and giving race fans access to the whole property. Every ticket (Adults $40 / Kids 11-18 $15 / Kids 5 & Under FREE) will be an an all-access pass which includes access to the pits for the entire event, meaning fans can get up close and personal with the racers, teams, and cars throughout the night.
