KLEPPER’S FIVE: Humboldt Speedway, 81 Speedway

Klepper's picks for Kansas

Curious which drivers you should keep an eye on at each Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota event? Series Announcer Rob Klepper will bring you his five drivers to keep an eye on each race weekend.

This week: Humboldt Speedway in Humboldt, KS, May 9, and 81 Speedway in Wichita, KS

KLEPPER’S FIVE:

Jacob Denney
Why: Points leader Karter Sarff will not be racing this weekend, which leaves the door wide open for Denney (only behind by one point) to take over the top spot. The only issue is… Denney has never raced at either Humboldt or 81 Speedway. BUT he has plenty of experience at tracks that may mimic each of them. He started the year off with a POWRi win at the Turnpike Challenge, then won his first Xtreme race at Farmer City, and most recently won at Kokomo with USAC. Denney will be tough each night.
Chase McDermand
Why: In 2023, McDermand swept both of the Kansas tracks and has never finished worse than fourth at either. In fact, he finished first and second, respectively, at 81 Speedway and with both Sarff and Inaugural Series champion Zach Daum not making the tow… The Illinois native is another one looking for the points lead leaving the “Sunflower State.”
Gavin Miller
Why: A disappointing start to the season with 12th and 15th place finishes at Farmer City has the three-time Series winner ready to get back in the hunt. Miller has enjoyed success at each of the Kansas Tracks with a seventh and second at Humboldt, and a third and fourth at 81, so maybe this is the weekend he starts his run for the title.
Colton Robinson
Why: A very impressive start to the Xtreme Outlaw Midget season for the rookie from Florida as he posted back-to-back top-10 finishes at Farmer City Raceway and now will head to two more tracks he’s never seen. But with his KKM team, including five other drivers and a whole host of knowledgeable people behind him, look for him to make some magic this weekend.
Kameron Key
Why: The “Show-Me State” driver of the Trifecta Motorsports No. 5U ran very well at Farmer City with a sixth-place run on opening night followed by a Series-best second-place finish on night two. As the theme of new tracks continues for a lot of these drivers, Key will need to get up to speed just as fast or faster than he did at Farmer City. Currently 26 points out of the lead after two rounds and 23 up on his teammate Michael Faccinto as he looks to make his mark early on the national tour.
You can follow these drivers and more all weekend at Humboldt Speedway, May 9, and 81 Speedway, May 10, by getting your tickets in advance or at the gate.
If you can’t make it to the track, you can watch every lap live – with Rob Klepper – on DIRTVision.
UP NEXT: Midget Roundup at Airport Raceway, May 24-25
